September Is Cap Classique Month on the Franschhoek Wine Route

September marks Cap Classique Month on the Franschhoek Wine Route, home to South Africa’s only dedicated Cap Classique Route: 24 producers spanning the valley from Babylonstoren through to Franschhoek Pass Winery.

The month opens with International Cap Classique Day on 1 September. Rather than a single ticketed festival, the route this year is built around self-guided cellar-door tastings, letting visitors work through participating estates at their own pace rather than on a fixed programme.

Producers on the route include well-known names such as Colmant, Le Lude, Haute Cabrière and L’Ormarins, alongside Boschendal, La Motte, Allée Bleue, Dieu Donné, Anthonij Rupert Wines and Leopard’s Leap, among others.

For a valley already known for still wine, a month built around Cap Classique gives visitors a reason to explore a side of Franschhoek’s wine identity that’s easy to overlook next to its more famous reds and whites.
